Rob Wealth (劫财) in BaZi
The star of drive and rivalry
Short answer
Rob Wealth (Jie Cai, 劫财) is the Heavenly Stem with the same phase as your Day Master but the opposite polarity. Traditionally it stands for drive, rivalry, sociability and risk-taking, and for peers and business partners. Because it controls Direct Wealth, old texts say it “robs” wealth; whether that matters depends on the Day Master's strength and the rest of the chart.

How to find the Rob Wealth
Take the other stem of your Day Master's phase, the one with the opposite polarity. For a Jia (Yang Wood) Day Master, the other Wood stem is Yi (Yin Wood), so Yi is Jia's Rob Wealth. The branch Mao, whose main qi is Yi, also counts as Rob Wealth.

|---|---|---|
| 甲 Jia · Yang Wood | 乙 Yi · Yin Wood | 卯 Mao |

What Rob Wealth means traditionally
Like the Parallel Shoulder, Rob Wealth supports the Day Master, but it is more active and outgoing: bold, competitive, sociable and willing to spend. When it works well, the person is traditionally described as action-oriented and at their best in competitive settings.
Rob Wealth controls Direct Wealth, so old texts tie it to losses and disputes over money. For a weak Day Master it helps carry Wealth; for a strong Day Master with plenty of Rob Wealth, it tends to show up as impulsive spending, partnership disputes or fighting over gains.
Rob Wealth in each pillar
- Year pillar
- often read as noticeable rivalry among siblings, or ups and downs in the family's finances early on.
- Month pillar
- for a Jia, Bing, Geng or Ren Day Master, Rob Wealth as the month's main qi puts the Day Master at its Prosperity (帝旺) stage, the Goat Blade structure (羊刃格): the strongest position, and the one that most needs restraint.
- Day branch
- the spouse palace. Rob Wealth here is traditionally read as a couple prone to tug-of-war over money and control, which calls for open communication.
- Hour pillar
- later life and children; often read as staying active and social later on, or needing to plan finances early.
Classic combinations
- Rob Wealth takes Wealth (劫财夺财)
- plenty of Rob Wealth against weak Direct Wealth, traditionally read as money being split. In a man's chart Direct Wealth is also the wife star, so old texts link it to marriage strain too.
- Goat Blade harnesses Seven Killings (羊刃驾杀)
- a Goat Blade (the Prosperity branch of a Yang Day Master) balanced by Seven Killings channels raw strength into career, traditionally a sign of authority and the capacity to take charge.
- Rob Wealth feeds the Hurting Officer (劫财生伤官)
- drive flows out through the Hurting Officer as bold ideas and innovation.
- Officers restrain Rob Wealth (官杀制劫)
- the Direct Officer or Seven Killings keeps impulsiveness in check, traditionally said to turn Rob Wealth into something useful.
Common misconceptions
- Rob Wealth does not guarantee losing money. For a weak Day Master it is exactly what lets the chart carry Wealth.
- Rob Wealth says nothing about character or honesty. It describes a way of acting and competing, not morals.
- Plenty of Rob Wealth does not doom a marriage; it depends on whether Wealth is protected and on the luck pillars.
- No single Ten God decides a chart; read it together with the Day Master's strength, the structure and the useful god.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my chart has Rob Wealth?
Enter your birth details in the free calculator. The Ten God row labels every stem, and Rob Wealth hidden in the branches is listed too. You can also use the table above with your Day Master.
What is the difference between Rob Wealth and Parallel Shoulder?
Both share your Day Master's phase. The Parallel Shoulder has the same polarity and leans toward independence and persistence. Rob Wealth has the opposite polarity: more forceful and driven, and more likely to clash with Wealth.
What does a Rob Wealth luck pillar or year mean?
Traditionally competition, socialising and spending all increase, so partnerships and investments call for extra care. For a weak Day Master, the same period can bring help and opportunities.
